Engine Yard services are purchased by the slice™. When you buy one, you get a portion of Engine Yard's business and technical resources, including Rails-focused deployment support, our Rails cluster computing platform, and a data center with proven technical and financial stability.

Prices are for a single application deployed on a slice. Each additional application installed on your slice is an additional $50 per month per slice with a $100 setup fee; each slice receives an extra 128M of RAM.

Engine Yard Fully-Managed Hosting means 24/7 Phone, Email, IRC, and Forums support. It means Engine Yard Capistrano recipes and top-to-bottom setup of your environment: application setup, gem installs, log file cleaning, Rails upgrades, and more. Most importantly, it means being backed by a top notch team of leading Ruby/Rails/Merb contributors, expert cluster engineers, and seasoned DBAs. Moreover, your database and SVN repository are backed up 7 days locally and 21 days after on Amazon S3 with 2048-bit encryption. Typical Configuration

Standard Slices

This is the most common configuration for existing businesses that are starting a new Rails project. It allows 1 slice for a staging environment and 2 slices for a production environment. Perhaps you have a new application and are still building traffic; Or you may have a site that doesn't expect a heavy load. Standard slices are a great way to get started with Engine Yard's managed hosting.

Clusters

If you have unique requirements, such as a website with very high traffic or sensitive financial/health data, please contact us. You might want to consider a fractional or full cluster. These can be deployed in our data center or in yours.

Fractional Clusters

If you are already running a successful service and don't want variability in performance, you may want to consider a fractional cluster. Businesses that have special data retention requirements, such as HIPAA, financial compliance, or dedicated databases, may also want to consider this option. You can ensure more consistent performance which is only possible in this environment. Pricing depends on your needs, but is typically $2,600-8,000/month, fully managed by us.

Clusters

In the big leagues, having your own full cluster may be the right call. This option is increasing in popularity as Rails applications reach all-new heights. We spec your needs and then build a fully dedicated cluster just for your application(s). You'll have your own load balancers, switches and other hardware in this environment. Dedicated space and power guarantee much higher future expandability without disruption.

We can do a lot of interesting things with a dedicated cluster, such as tuning everything about the cluster to fit your applications' needs and traffic patterns or hosting multiple environments. Combine all this with a dedicated account manager and you'll be assured performance, reliability, and the highest level of service. The minimum dedicated cluster is roughly equivalent to 100-130 slices. Pricing starts at $19K/month, fully managed by us in our data center. Clusters can exist in our data center or yours.
